Poker Weather
Apparently, inclement weather causes an upturn in online poker playing.
A report on gaming industry Web site gambling911.com stated that a sharp increase in numbers at online poker sites were recorded during the passing of Tropical Storm Hannah over the eastern Unites States.
Now, obviously even the most callous owner of an internet gaming site would not hope for a hurricane or other extreme weather event just to spike revenues, but it in an interesting correlation that I have never thought about. It would make sense that when people are stuck inside they would be on the net, or perhaps watching the TV, more and many poker players may naturally head to their favorite online poker site to play a hand or two.
I know if I am stuck inside for any reason, I will almost instinctively play a few hands online to pass the time. I’m sure I am not alone in that respect.
I would be interested to find a study looking at traffic to various online poker rooms during, for example, winter months in cold weather places to see if there is any correlation. If so, then these are some things for the marketing and promotions departments of poker sites to consider, if they don’t already.
