Doctorate Robes
Although doctorate robes are customarily black, there are others that are made in college or university colors. The American Council on Education code however states that if the robes are in school colors, the outer shell of the hood of doctorate robes should remain black. There are a few differences between the doctorate robes and other robes worn by bachelors. An example is in the sleeves which have three bands made of velvet. The front of the robe should also have velvet facing going from top to the bottom. The velvet should be made in colors of the specific field of study of the doctoral degree.
