Figure out the Ropes to Work as a Dr
If you are looking to become a qualified Physician, then you will need to become better at your consultant interviews
The following is information on how to become a Dr. in the UK if you haven’t already completed medical training.
British Medical Training
If you train to be a Dr. in the UK your education will be in three stages.
Medical School
Firstly, you will usually spend five years studying for a degree in medicine at a medical school attached to a university. As well as classroom based learning, you will also spend time in hospitals and GP surgeries to undertake your clinical training.
Postgraduate Medical Education
Phase 2 of your training involves either a 5 or 9 year training programme. Everyone completes a 2 year foundation programme to make sure that they are on the medical register. After that point you may wish to enter a 3 year training programme for general practice or a more intense training programme that will result in you being qualified to be a hospital consulant.
Once you have qualified you will need to determine which speciality you would like to focus on. There are some 60 plus specialities to choose from, so you need to take your time and select the field that best suits your temperament and skill strengths.
Continuing Medical Education
The third part of a Medic’s training is continuing medical education which carries on throughout a Doctor’s career.
If your goal is to pursue a medical career and you wish to do this in the UK, then this will be the broad path. There will be subtle variations depending on your own personal circumstances – obviously. If you feel that you may have trouble with your interview skills when applying for a medical school or postgraduate medical post, then try to get decent interview skills training. There are plenty of options out there, but look to listen to an interview trainer with a track record of success
