A Perfect Mother’s Day
I have always looked forward to mother’s day as my eight-year-old son and my husband have always found fun ways to impress me every single time. The day before, there are always hushed conversations and mysterious disappearances as their plans for Mother’s Day gifts slowly take effect. The only problem was most of the time my son would end up spilling the beans and ruin the surprise.
This time however my dear husband had managed to keep the suspense over my Mother’s Day gift going successfully. Father and son would still have their hushed conversations but I couldn’t get any information out of the little one.
On Mother’s Day, first came the breakfast in bed. As my son carefully balanced the tray, my husband woke me up only to scream, Happy Mother’s Day. As I finished my breakfast, both father and son went downstairs for the next surprise.
As I came downstairs a nice mother’s day gift in the form of a custom-made gift basket welcomed me. I was thrilled to bits as they had selected my favorite chocolates, music CDs, and movie DVDs, and made a nice assortment of gift items. They were absolutely precious and well thought out. I squealed with joy at every little gift that I slowly extracted from the gift basket. I was really surprised this time.
Next on the list of Mother’s Day gifts 2009 was a meal cooked by my husband and son. As I played the part of a couch potato to perfection, they decided to cook up a storm in the kitchen. Pasta was on the menu and eventually all over my kitchen floor as well. After a while they did manage to get their act together without my help.
The pasta was overcooked but it was the best pasta I had ever tasted as it was made with a lot of love and affection. Father and son had finally managed to surprise me every step of the way and the day was still young. Flowers and a greeting card made by my son made the day extra special. They didn’t attempt to make dinner so we decided to eat out. As I sat across the table I couldn’t help but smile to myself thinking how lucky I really was.
