The data indicating a sharp increase in the number of users of mobile broadband in
A newly published study of the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency shows that mobile broadband users in Sweden have multiplied, as is evident from the trend of four times increase in data traffic in Sweden every year. Moreover in 2008, the aggregate data usage in a month by broadband users has increased by hundred per cent. This has resulted in similar levels of data usage in mobile broadband and fixed-line connections.
A senior partner at Rewheel, a telecom consultancy firm located in Helsinki, believes that this data indicates that the market favours substitution of fixed-line connections by mobile broadband. The only problem is that the low prices at which mobile broadband is being supplied by service providers in order to capture the market of fixed-line connections might not leave any margin for making profits.
The response of the consumers has been positive towards the use of mobile internet, but specialists think that broadband service providers should find a reasonable pricing system for ensuring that mobile broadband becomes firmly established in the country.
